ONCOLOGY

The subdiscipline of medicine concerned with the study and treatment of tumors, including, medical, surgical aspects and their treatment with radiation.

 

ORGASM

The climax of sexual arousal, which in men coincides with ejaculation and comprises of a series of involuntary muscle contractions.  In women there are irregular contractions of the vagina walls.

 

OSTEOPOROSIS

A loss of bone tissue due to it being resorbed, resulting in bones that become brittle and likely to fracture.  It is common in menopausal women and results from long term steroid therapy.  It is also a symptom of Cushing’s Syndrome.   

 

 

OVARIAN CYST

A sac filled with fluid that develops in the ovary.  Most are benign but their size may cause swelling and pressure on other organs.  For those cysts that do become malignant, it is possible that its discovery comes too late to allow successful treatment.  Ultrasound scanning can be adopted to detect tumors at an early stage.
